I generally ignore widely acclaimed series-- "READ THESE BOOKS! THEY'LL REMIND YOU OF HARRY POTTER!" Uh, no thanks. Nothing will replace Harry Potter in my mind. So, for the past few years, Gregor the Overlander (Underlander?), Eragon, Redwall, Artemis Fowl, and like 500 other series have been ignored. One of the reasons for this is that I tire of reading book after book of the same series-- I find I can't stop and I just HAVE to read the rest of them (the 6 "Secrets of my Hollywood Life" books on my Kindle are proof).
When I finally succumbed to reading the first Artemis Fowl book, I was intrigued by his character and by the premise. I finished the first and bought the second for my Kindle. Then the third. The fourth. The fifth. The sixth. This morning, I bought the seventh.
Yesterday, I started and finished 5 Artemis Fowl books.
OK, it might be that I have a thing for antiheroes, but the books really are quite good. The plot is interesting and all, but the only drawback is that everything starts to get rather repetitive and drawn out towards the beginning of the 7th book. I am, however, looking forward to finishing this one and the last one coming out.
Here's a music video for a really cool Artemis Fowl song. The guy in it will supposedly play Artemis in the movie, which is definitely being made. I guess I pictured Artemis differently (by the way, Artemis is about the coolest name a guy can have, other than Wolf. For sure.), but I'm not opposed to this guy playing him. Not that much, anyway. I think they could have done better. He seems a little un-refined, un-heartless (at least in the first book), and un-Artemis-like. But whatever. I'm not gonna rant for a hundred thousand hours about why he shouldn't play Artemis. It's OK.
So here's the video! It's really cool! You should watch it!
